Commission piece for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) — digital design created for the 2024 Higher Risk Weather Season National Preparedness Program.
Each piece is painted to be felt, not just seen — a way of carrying story, Country and culture into the spaces where people live, heal and gather.
My name is LaToya and I’m a proud Ngunnawal and Wiradjuri woman - my grandmother is Ngunnawal from Yass, and my grandfather is Wiradjuri from Cowra, both small country towns Central West NSW. I was born on Wiradjuri Country in Cowra, grew up on Ngunnawal Country in Canberra and I now reside on beautiful Dharawal Country in Wollongong NSW; my connections extend across Wiradjuri, Ngunnawal and Dharawal Countries.
I began painting in 2017, following my diagnosis with Epilepsy. What started as a therapeutic practice soon became a powerful source of healing, focus, and motivation. Art has helped me stay grounded and calm, while also inspiring me to grow creatively and build my own business.

Kalari Bila is the Wiradjuri word for the Lachlan River. The Lachlan River runs through Cowra, New South Wales - the town I was born.
The Wiradjuri nation of New South Wales is the largest and most numerous of all Aboriginal nations. The Wiradjuri people are known as the people of the three rivers as they have occupied the land between the Lachlan, Macquarie and Murrumbidgee rivers for many years.
